{Chicken Parmesan Sandwich}
Step in for lunch or the $50 dinner prix fixe and meet your new Italian "grandmothers": Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi. These two men have made quite a splash revitalizing Italian cooking with a touch of American character. It's a little nostalgia and a little new.
The old school storefront is filled with cured meats and traditional effects, but the kitchen creates its own interpretation of Italian. And while careful attention is paid to the ingredients, they are unpretentious, homey, and most of all American. The fresh ingredients truly elevate their chicken parm and house roasted turkey sandwiches.
Through all this, their focus on simple, delicious Italian cuisine is unmistakable and much acclaimed.
With all the newfangled edible foams and powders out there it's easy to forget the familiar favorites like chicken parm. Sweet tomato sauce and a thick slice of buttery fresh mozzarella blanket the lightly breaded, tender chicken. Each bite is a glorious mess but the few with basil are even better. It is well worth trying to snag one of the 18 seats to get your hands on this sandwich.
{Asparagus and spicy broccoli rabe}
Torrisi's quarter pound antipasti have changed my 2 year old mentality on vegetables. Who knew a little mint, lemon, and parmesan could make asparagus so memorable? Or chili with bitter broccoli rabe?
